Patty Scheets, PT, DPT, MHS, NCS – Director of Quality & Clinical Outcomes

Patty did her entry-level and all post-professional education at Washington University in St. Louis where she also began her career in the clinical environment led by the director of the Program in Physical Therapy. Her patient care experience began in acute rehabilitation and acute neuromedicine and neurosurgery care. It was in this environment, surrounded by expert clinicians and physical therapy educators and researchers, that she developed her commitment to understanding her patient’s movement problems and integrating what was being learned from research into practice. Patty, along with her colleagues at Washington University, has developed and published a system of Movement System Diagnoses for patients with neuromuscular conditions. These diagnostic categories describe the patterns of movement problems seen in neuromuscular patients. Use of the diagnostic categories guides the clinician through a systematic movement system examination needed to discern different types of movement problems and in making critical choices in treatment selection.

After leaving Washington University in 2000, Patty has provided clinical leadership in a variety of settings. In each of these settings she has worked to implement a systematic approach to managing movement system problems in neuromuscular and musculoskeletal patients. She has focused much of her energy on developing and implementing strategies for applying evidence in practice. Most recently, Patty was a National Clinical Specialist with Gentiva Health Services, a national home health and hospice company. In this role, she gained valuable experience in implementing advanced clinical strategies on a large scale. Patty is also the President of the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy, one of the fastest growing sections of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
